Try to stay at least until the end of January. Many landlords will not rent to you if you request a rental period that terminates at the end of December. Why? Because the next batch of international students arrive in February and if you leave at the end of December then the landlord has no tenant for one month.
Many landlords understand this problem and they will not be flexible on the start and end dates. You won’t be able to bargain a departure in mid-January for example. We have seen many landlords decline room requests where the rental period ends in December. Therefore, extending your stay in Taipei after the classes until the end of January is a wise decision that we recommend. It will help you when you search for your perfect accommodation.
In addition, leaving Taiwan early means missing out on an enriching cultural and personal experience. Here are some things you can do in January after your classes are over:
- Embrace the unique charm of Taiwan’s winter. Hike snow-capped mountains in Hehuan Mountains or soak in rejuvenating hot springs like Beitou. Explore the lantern wonderland of Pingxi or witness the dazzling fireworks display in Taipei 101. January unveils a different side of Taiwan, enriching your understanding of its diverse landscapes and traditions.
- You can extend your academic journey by attending intensive language courses or cultural workshops offered in January. This fosters deeper language proficiency, enhances your cultural understanding, and expands your network within the local community.
